Malta Rowing Tour

May 11-17, 2027

Description

Malta is a small island nation in the heart of the Mediterranean, located just south of Sicily. An archipelago shaped by thousands of years of history, Malta is home to ancient temples, fortified cities, dramatic limestone coastlines, hidden coves, and layer upon layer of cultures that have left their mark on the islands.

Our home for the week will be Valletta, Malta’s extraordinary UNESCO World Heritage capital: a city of golden stone, grand harbors, steep streets, hidden stairways, colorful balconies, tiny bars, beautiful restaurants, and centuries of history woven into everyday life.

I first visited Malta with in May 2026 as a test tour with a few iROW Tours travelers. We rowed, explored, traveled across the island, and experienced Malta from both land and sea. I came home knowing that Malta deserved something more: a full iROW Tour of its own.

And so, in May 2027, we are going back. Over seven days and six nights, we will enjoy five rowing outings, weather and rowing conditions permitting. After rowing, the rest of our days will unfold through a mix of exploration, history, time at sea, memorable dining experiences, and plenty of time to simply revel in Valletta’s ancient and undeniably cool atmosphere.

We will wander through Valletta and visit the magnificent St. John’s Co-Cathedral, home of one of Caravaggio’s great masterpieces, The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist. We will explore beyond the capital on a private drive-and-walk journey across the island, discovering historic towns, landscapes, viewpoints, and places that reveal the many layers of Malta.

Dining will be part of the journey. We will seek out memorable meals in beautiful and atmospheric settings, discovering Malta through its Mediterranean flavors as well as its history and landscape. Expect lovely restaurants, lingering dinners, good wine, and those special evenings when the setting, the food, and the company come together just right.

There will also be time with no grand agenda at all: to wander Valletta’s streets, stop for a drink, discover a tiny restaurant, sit in a square, watch the harbor, and absorb the atmosphere of a city that somehow feels both ancient and very much alive.

This once-in-a-lifetime experience is priced at $6,500 (iROW clients and prior participants $5,850), and it includes:

  • Six-night stay in a 4* boutique hotel in the heart of Valletta (Single Supplement $1200)

  • All Breakfasts and Dinners

We will row, explore, wander and leave room for the unexpected moments that often become the best ones. I hope you’ll join us in Malta in May 2027.
